Assistant professor fired for sexually harassing Dinajpur HSTU student
An assistant professor of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur was permanently expelled today for sexually harassing a female student of his department in 2017, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.
Ramzan Ali was an assistant professor of the bio-chemistry and molecular biology department of the university.
The Regent Board, the highest decision-making forum of HSTU, took the decision at its 48th board meeting, in presence of its majority members.
Several members of the board confirmed the decision to The Daily Star.
A section of teachers of HSTU and Dinajpur chapter of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad had long been demanding Ramzan’s expulsion.
Earlier, the university authority suspended Ramzan on July 30, 2018 after a probe body found the sexual harassment allegation against him to be true.
Officials said a student had brought the allegations against Ramzan in September 2017.
Contacted, Ramzan Ali said he knew nothing about the decision.
