Media to change attitude towards Sexual Harassment
Gender-based violence is often unspoken. The cultural acceptance and attitude towards such violence can be changed with the help of media, emphasized by the speakers at a round table conference at The Daily Star, (Dhaka, June 10, 2015).
One of the key speakers, Eileen O’Connor, deputy assistant US Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, shared her personal experiences of facing harassment and not getting support in 70s and 80s. She also added how media activism changed the scene in the 90s by covering a sexual harassment scandal and inspiring many to be vocal about their problems.
The round table was organized jointly by Protecting Human Rights Program (PHR) and Women Journalists’ Network of Bangladesh.
