Climate Change Is a Health Crisis Too: CPD Climate Week 2026 Opens Call for Abstracts

When climate change is discussed, the conversation often starts with rising temperatures, floods, cyclones, food security and economic losses. Yet one question still receives far less attention: what happens to people’s health and rights when a climate emergency disrupts everyday life—especially for women, girls and other groups whose access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) can become more difficult?

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) is inviting early-career researchers to bring this question into the international conversation through CPD Climate Week 2026.

Why This Matters

Climate shocks in Bangladesh are already disrupting essential health services. UNFPA Bangladesh reported that during climate emergencies in 2024, more than 40,000 women and adolescent girls accessed SRHR services through mobile health camps, while 2,586 people received contraceptive services.

Globally, WHO notes that extreme heat and flooding can affect maternal and newborn health, disrupt contraception, and increase risks of gender-based violence and harmful practices.

CPD’s focus areas—health, climate justice, gender equity, community resilience, agriculture, livelihoods, digital innovation and policy—offer space for research that goes beyond describing damage. The strongest contributions will examine who is most affected, whose voices are missing, and which solutions can work at community level.

For young researchers, this is a chance to move the climate debate from crisis reporting toward evidence-based solutions. For the SRHR community, it is an opportunity to show that climate resilience remains incomplete unless women, girls and vulnerable communities can continue to exercise their right to essential health services, information and bodily autonomy.

The future is changing rapidly. The evidence needs to keep pace.
