Women Empowerment: Survey reports on Bangladeshi Social Enterprises
The British Council, an organization for cultural relations, revealed two new survey reports on Bangladeshi social enterprises on 9th October, 2016, led by Overseas Development Institute with support from BetterStories Limited, UnLtd and Social Enterprise UK.
Minhaz Anwar, managing director of BetterStories Limited presented the survey reports.
The first survey report titled ‘The State of Social Enterprise in Bangladesh,’ stated that around 20% of social enterprises in the country are led by women, with their leadership and empowerment in social enterprises significantly higher than in mainstream businesses which are led by only 5% women.

The second report titled ‘Social Enterprise Policy Landscape in Bangladesh’ surveyed the existing environment for social enterprises in the country, with emphasis on government activities that influence social enterprise and compiles suggestions from government and sector stakeholders.
Speakers at the programme said that social enterprise is a growing and dynamic sector of the Bangladesh economy. It is creating jobs for disadvantaged groups, empowering women, and addressing social exclusion across the country.
Director General of NGO Affairs Bureau Md Ashadul Islam also addressed the event.
