Share-Net Rapid Improvement Model (SHIRIM): National Learning Session 3- Climate Change & SRHR
RedOrange Communications in partnership with International Centre for Climate Change and Development hosted National Learning Session 3 under Share-Net International Rapid Improvement Model at Hotel Dhaka Golden INN. Climate Change and SRHR experts participated in the session and provided needful recommendations at the policy level.
In Bangladesh climate change has direct impact on sexual and reproductive health. It disrupts family planning, health of adolescents with disabilities and maternal health intensively. Despite of such instances the linkage between Climate change and SRHR is often ignored which needs to be acknowledged by the people of all level.
Participants suggested to reach people of different community, like minor groups residing in hill tracts and also women from urban areas. Climate change equally effect on their sexual and reproductive health.
Khaleda Yasmin, National Coordinator FP-FSD, Directorate General of Family Planning shared the Recommendation for National Adaptation Plan on Climate Change and SRHR; Information and Education for Policymakers. Participants interacted with her discussion and raised a few questions, also suggested what to add more for better results.
In the mind mapping session, Nazneen I Khan, Researcher, ICCCAD, conducted an exercise in which each and everyone participated enthusiastically. The brainstorming session helped in finding and creating a link between SRHR and Climate Change through sharing their thoughts, ideas and past experiences of working on the issue.
Eric Casper, Senior Consultant, Humanity Research Consultancy Affiliate, George Washington University facilitated a session and said, ‘We need to fight for what is true’. Later he divided participants into three groups and asked for recommendations.
Chief guest, Md Niajur Rahman, Director (Finance) & Line Director (FP-FSD), Directorate General of Family Planning in his speech asked to develop a forum through which all civil society organizations can work in collaboration on Climate Change and SRHR, also, creating a linkage with SDGs.
Arnob Chakrabarty, Managing Director, RedOrange Communications in his concluding message shared his sincere gratitude to partner organisations. He said “ Very nice conclusion. SHIRIM stops, Forum starts. RedOrange Communications is working as a catalyst. We need to gather pieces of evidence and bring them to policymakers, only when the changes shall appear. We started with mapping, desk review and policy brief and now the vision is cleared. It has been a proud journey,” he added.
Alif Sabrina Aziz, Secretory, WreetuHealth & Well Being Foundation, Tasnia Ahmed, Programme Manager, Serac Bangladesh, Rifat Zinat Jahan, Senior Manager, Inclusive Citizenship from Friendship, Dewan Ahmed Tanvir, ProgramOfficer(KMC), Family Planning and Association Bangladesh, Dr. Afsana Wahab, Executive Director, CWCD glorified the event with their participation. There was youth participation who contributed to the session with their experiences in working for SRHR and Climate in different sectors. Their inputs and recommendations enriched the discussion and showed the way forward for research, policy and practice.
