Globally millions of women are lacking sufficient contraceptive options- The Lancet
Despite significant gains in global use since 1970, the most thorough analysis of global contraceptive need and use, which was just published in The Lancet journal, indicated that over 160 million women and adolescents who needed to avoid childbirth in 2019 were still lacking sufficient contraception.
The survey discovers that, at 65% and 72%, respectively, women and those aged 15 to 19 and 20 to 24 had the lowest worldwide demand satisfaction percentages. In 2019, 43 million young women and adolescents globally, or 16% of the world’s overall requirements but 27% of unmet needs, are in this age group (15 to 24).
By 2020, 120 million more women in 69 priority countries are expected to utilize modern contraception, according to the Family Planning 2020 Initiative (FP2020). In these nations (apart from Western Sahara), the number of women utilizing contraception grew by 69 million between 2012 and 2019, leaving the effort 51 million shy of its target assuming these numbers stayed the same in 2020.
