Research article: COVID-19 and the lives of persons with disabilities in Bangladesh
One research article titled ‘COVID-19 in Bangladesh: an especially difficult time for an invisible population’ was published on 31 May, 2021 on the international journal Disability & Society. The article was authored by Md Tanvir Hasan, Adity Shayontony Das, Adeepto Intisar Ahmed, and Sabina Faiz Rashid from BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health (JPGSPH), BRAC University; and Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury from Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, New York, NY, USA. The study was funded by The Embassy of the Royal Kingdom of Netherlands in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The article focuses on the impacts of COVID-19 on the lives of persons with disabilities in Bangladesh. The paper focuses on documenting the livelihood struggles of them during the pandemic time period and the challenges experienced by them while accessing formal health care services and other social safety nets.
In this study, the researchers used publicly available information and also used the data from an ongoing research study conducted by BRAC University. This study was on to discuss possible impacts of COVID-19 on the lives of persons with disabilities in Bangladesh.
This study suggested that COVID-19 has negatively affected their income and earnings which had made them vulnerable to seek some sort of financial helps from others. Again, they noted that, there was an unavailability of the proper health care services by the health professionals.
