SRHR publications/research

Since its inception, Shaathi has focused on reaching the last mile of women and girls ensuring they have access to affordable and durable reusable sanitary napkins. Through its Give Pad, Gift Hygiene” program Shaathi enables donors to help a girl manage her period for a year with just BDT 500. The organization has successfully distributed reusable sanitary napkins to over 30,000 women and girls, including schoolgirls, factory workers, sex workers, and women coolies at Kamalapur Railway Station in partnership with INGOs, NGOs, Corporates and other relevant stakeholders. Notable partners include USAID Bangladesh, ActionAid, Coca-Cola Beverage Bangladesh Ltd (CCBB), JAAGO Foundation, and JCI Bangladesh. To combat school absenteeism due to menstrual issues, Shaathi initiated the Safe Haven – Pad Bank Project, installing Pad Banks in over 50 schools throughout Dhaka including Shantibag High School, South Zone Pre Cadet School, Ahmadbag Adarsha High School, Fatema Tuz Johra Mohila Madrasa, Ideal Kindergarten And High School, Rampura Ekramunnesa Girls High School and many more. This project not only provides necessary menstrual products but also includes comprehensive Menstrual Health Management (MHM) sessions for students. Additionally, Shaathi empowers underprivileged women by conducting workshops that teach them how to make reusable sanitary napkins, fostering skills development and economic independence through its project Give women the gift of Independence. The Menstrual Health and Hygiene Education (MHHE) program, developed in both English and Bangla, further equips girls with vital knowledge to maintain healthy menstrual cycles, addressing a significant gap in menstrual health literacy. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Shaathi continued its mission by distributing menstrual kits to 3000 women and girls, including frontline workers, while also dispelling myths and providing accurate information about menstrual health in the context of the pandemic. The organization’s impact is reflected in its work with 50 schools and its reach across all seven (07) divisions of Bangladesh, significantly contributing to the health, well-being, and economic participation of women in these communities.
