Proposal sent to install CCTV in public transport
A day long Solution Fair was held at CIRDAP as a part of ‘The 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Based Violence’ program on Sunday, November 25, 2018.
Addressing the issue of women being sexually harassed in public transport, she said, “We have recently sent a proposal to the Finance Ministry for funds to install CCTV cameras in public transport.” Taking this step will help in reducing the number of incidents related to sexual harassment in public transport, and to identify the perpetrators. It will also make men even more cautious about their actions and movement, either intentional or unintentional.
Chief guest State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki addressed the fact that men should be included in the women empowerment process too.
UNRC Mia Seppo welcomed the plan and said: “The government should implement the National Action Plan through a strong monitoring and evaluation system.” She further praised the millenials for being ‘an exciting generation’ who actually believes in gender equality. The inauguration was followed by a panel discussion joined by Youth Advisory Panel.
The Solution Fair featured a total 14 stalls representing the works of Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF),Action Aid Bangladesh, Bangladesh Legal Aid And Services Trust (BLAST), Center for Men and Masculinities Studies (CMMS),Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO),International Labour Organization (ILO), Joyeeta,Multi-sectoral Project on Violence Against Women, United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA), UN Women,Unite for Body Rights Alliance, Nirapod, AdoHearts, and other partners of the Kingdom of Netherlands.
