A decision affecting the whole world

USA president Donald Trump has issued his first few executive orders in office, one of them is to reverse the abortion policy.

In a stunt to  proclaim himself “pro-life” – President Trump has barred US federal funding to foreign NGOs who support abortion.

That means whether it is direct services, information, counselling or referrals, US foreign assistance funds can no longer be dispersed to support any of these activities.

US foreign assistance has been playing a key role in reducing maternal mortality partnering with the Government of Bangladesh. Such a decision can affect programs in Bangladesh as well as all other countries where US foreign assistance is helping the family planning agenda.

Public health experts and social bodies have showed deep concern over this move. Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said, “The world’s most vulnerable women will suffer as a direct result of this policy, which undermines years of effort to improve women’s health.”
