Correlation between Violence against Wives and STIs
For Bangladeshi men, violence against wives is a common phenomenon. The risk regarding wives’ sexual health is higher of the men who commit such abuse. This is because these abusive husbands are more likely to take part in extramarital sexual behavior and contract an STI compared to non-abusive husbands.
This paper tries to assess the relationship between men’s violence against wives and their sexual risk behaviors and sexual health. Here, in last 12 months, physical and sexual violence against wives was assessed. It also scrutinized the relations to men’s extramarital sexual behaviors and sexually transmitted infection (STI) symptoms or diagnosis during this same period. To conclude the paper suggests that in the research and intervention, men’s violence in marriage and implications of such behavior for women’s sexual health should be given more priority.
