CARE reports alarming state of Child marriage
In every two seconds a girl child is forced to marry —says a report by CARE. The organization has ranked Bangladesh 20th among the 26 countries rated, with the highest prevalence of child marriage outside Sub-Saharan African Nations.
CARE’s observations indicate that, worldwide, about 40,000 girl children a day are married off without proper consent. Poverty, social norms and poor legal-enforcement are some of the major causes behind the practice —the report claims.
