Another gang-raped in Noakhali’s Subarnachar
Around seven women or girls have been raped in the upazila so far
A 14-year-old girl has reportedly been gang raped in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali.
The incident took place in the Baraitala area in Char Alauddin village under Mohammadpur union on Thursday midnight.
The victim was taken to Noakhali General Hospital Friday morning.
She claimed that two men – Hossain Bepari, 45, and Sohel, 24 – dragged her to a nearby fish farm and raped her in turns. They also recorded the heinous act and threatened to make it viral if she disclosed any information about the incident.
At one point, when she attempted to escape, Hossain tried to murder her by stepping on her throat, leaving her unconscious.
She said there were two other people in the fish farm. Later, her parents and sister rescued her from the farm and admitted her to Noakhali General Hospital.
The hospital’s Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Syed Abdul Azim confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune, saying that she was currently under treatment in the gynaecology ward.
He said the allegation of rape can only be confirmed after the victim is examined.
Char Jabbar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahed Uddin said: “We are investigating the matter. The victim’s sister has filed a case over the matter, accusing four people: Ali Hossain, Sohail, Didar, and Chowdhury.”
From December 30, 2018, till date, at least six women and girls were gang-raped in or near Subarnachar upazila.
In the first incident on December 31, a woman was gang-raped by a group of miscreants at her home in Modhya bagar area.
The victim’s husband claimed that firearms-carrying ruling party men had barged into their home around midnight, and tied him and his children up before sexually violating his wife because she voted for the local BNP MP candidate during Sunday’s 11th general election.
Eleven people were arrested in the gang-rape case.
On January 18, a 29-year-old mother of three was gang raped by four men after they forcefully entered her house in Kabirhat upazila, bordering Subarnachar, and tied her and her children up.
The victim’s husband, a mason, was in jail at the time, and the culprits took advantage of that, according to police.
Police arrested Zakir Hossain, 28, after the victim filed a case naming him and three unnamed men, accusing them of raping her.
On February 2, a sixth-grade schoolgirl, aged 13, was gang-raped in Subarnachar’s Purbacharbata union, after being lured into a CNG. Two people were arrested in connection with the incident.
On May 31, a married pair was returning home in Charjabbar union after voting for a vice chairman candidate. Their motorcycle was waylaid by a dozen men led by Yusuf Majhi, a known supporter of another vice chairman candidate who won the election.
The woman, a mother of six children, was dragged to a nearby fish farm owned by a local named Ruhul Amin and raped by the attackers. Five people were arrested.
On August 4, a 23-year-old widow was gang-raped by three men in Mohammadpur union of Subarnachar upazila.
According to the victim, the trio stormed her home in the early morning with sharp weapons, and took turns raping her. No arrests have been made as yet.
