Women’s attire blamed in School Exam Question
Women’s choice of attire is often subjected to negative connotation. This is especially true for conservative societies like Bangladesh where women, victims to sexual harassment are blamed for their dresses. Amidst recent events of sexual violence and discursive protests against it in media, “a Dhaka school has recently set a question for its seventh graders construing women’s way of clothing as being responsible for harassment.”
Rasheda K Chowdhury, Executive director of Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), believes such notions will create a negative impression in young students towards women “from a very early age.”
