The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) will review women’s rights in Bangladesh on November 8. CEDAW’s officially termed concluding observations and findings on the countries reviewed, including Bangladesh, will be published on November 21.
CEDAW, composed of 23 independent human rights experts drawn from around the world, serve in their personal capacity and not as representatives of State parties. The Committee’s concluding observations are an independent assessment of States’ compliance with their human rights obligations under the treaty.
The UN committee is meeting in Geneva from October 24 to November 18 to review women’s rights in a number of countries, according to a message received in Dhaka from Geneva on Monday, reports UNB.
