Flood-hit women to get reproductive health kits
A total of 110 ‘Dignity Kits’ were handed out to the government by the UN population agency in Bangladesh (UNFPA) in response to the cyclone Roanu. The kits contain clothes, vital medical supplies, essential hygiene supplies (such as soap, toothpaste and sanitary pads), along with flashlight and whistle in the kit to ensure extra safety.
The monsoon-induced flood has affected nearly 2.7m people, with an estimated 24,000 women who are currently pregnant and in need of maternal care, with 12,700 due to deliver babies in the next three months.
The kits will help ensure delivery under “safe conditions” for at least 5000 women.
