Child brides in Bangladesh
Child marriage was made illegal in 1929. However, due to poverty, inaction from law enforcement and traditions, the country is now showing worrying signs of regression. Bangladesh has the highest rate of marriage for girls under 15 in the world. According to UNICEF, 29% of girls married by that age and 66% wed by 18.
Many girls have lost their childhood because of this destructive practice. Enduring all kind of mental and physical abuses by in-laws, Ratna, the child bride shared her horror story to The Guardian.
