5 receive Begum Rokeya Padak 2018

December 9 is observed as Begum Rokeya Day in honour of Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain, one of the first female figures in Bengal who fought for women’s rights. This year marks Begum Rokeya’s 138th birth and 86th death anniversary.

Five people received the prestigious Begum Rokeya Padak 2018 for their contributions to society. The recipients of the award are Zinnatun Nesa Talukdar, Prof Zohra Anis, Shila Roy, Rauma Chowdhury (posthumously) and Rokeya Begum (posthumously). Recipients/ Family members of the recipients received medals, cheques of Tk 2lakhs each, and certificates from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Children and Women Affairs, with the State Minsiter for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki as the Chair.
