5 Rapists get Life Imprisonment

Two sisters were raped on May 28, 2010, by miscreants in Santinagar area of Sonargoan upazila. The convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment by Narayanganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Sheheen Uddin, and ordered to pay a compensation of Tk 1 lakh to the victims.

In another case in Noakhali, a woman was arrested yesterday for brutally torturing a 14-year-old girl. The teenager went missing four months ago from Char Nongolia village under Hatia upazila. She was recovered on Sunday night by the police from Chattogram and sent to Dhaka Medical College for treatment. Her mother alleged that the girl was taken away by her neighbour, Rina Akhter, after luring her with a job offer. Quoting her daughter, she said that they tortured her by throwing hot water and acid because she refused to follow their order of working as a sex worker.

Her brother filed the case with Sudharam Police Station, said OC Anwar Hossain of the police station.
