GOVT WORKING ON HEALTH SERVICES FOR ALL: SPEAKER
Speaker of the parliament and chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury inaugurated on Sunday the 12th International Conference on Urban Health (ICUH 2015) to exchange ideas and opinions among the urban health professionals at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city, reports BSS.
Emphasising the importance of safe environment to reduce the transmission of healthcare-related infections, the Speaker said, “Government is working to provide healthcare services at the door-steps of people.”
She said the government laid importance on ensuring urban health services and achieving the millennium development goals (MDGs).
Secretary of health and family welfare ministry Syed Manjurul Islam, Ambassador of the Netherlands Gerben S De Jong and ambassador of Sweden Johan Fruell also spoke.
“The government is also paying special attention to maternal health so that a healthy mother can deliver a healthy child to build a healthy nation,” said the Speaker.
The ICUH 2015 is the first conference of its kind in the country which is emphasising the inclusion of urban health priorities in the post-2015 development agenda.
Scientists, practitioners, policy makers and community organisations from more than 60 countries are participating in the conference to exchange ideas about latest research and practices concerning health of individuals.
A total of six plenary sessions and more than 20 special sessions will be held at the conference. A total of 180 keynote papers on different issues will be presented.
