Two 5-year-olds raped in Rajshahi

A man in Rajshahi’s Charghat upazila raped two children of a neighbouring house yesterday, according to a case statement filed over the incident

Prantik (20), a mason by profession, raped the two children while they visited his house in Gopalpur around 12:30pm on Saturday to watch cartoons, police said today quoting the case statement.

Prantik has gone into hiding after the incident, said Somit Kumar Kundu, officer-in-charge of Charghat Police Station.

The two children, cousins aged around five-and-a-half years, were admitted to the one-stop crisis centre of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment and tests, the OC said.

Prantik had lured them to an empty room with promises of biscuits and raped each child in turn, the OC said, quoting the case statement.

He fled when the children started shouting.

Hearing their cries, the children’s parents along with locals rescued them and took them to the local upazila health complex. They were later shifted to the RMCH.

The father of one of the children filed a case with Charghat Police Station accusing Prantik under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

“We are trying to arrest the rapist,” the OC said.
