Termination of menstrual cycle among disabled women

Many families want to terminate the menstrual cycle menstrual cycle of their daughter. Since most of the women with disability cannot manage menstrual hygiene by themselves, the parents, especially mothers want to terminate the period cycle.

In Bangladesh, there is no organizations which works for disabled women on big spectrum. The disabled women are deprived of education and so, they do not have proper knowledge on menstrual health. The society ostracizes them since they believe, disabled women cannot get married. Mothers support the removal of uterus from their daughter’s body to avoid sexual assault and unwanted pregnancy.

Salma Mahbub, a physically handicapped woman said that special sanitary napkin is needed for the disabled women.
