BNPS journey to SRHR movement started with develop and piloting SRHR curriculum in six mainstream public schools in 2009. From this pilot phase, the number of schools was scaled up to 120 within 2014. This school and community based programme also had a rigorous policy advocacy component to influence the Education Ministry and the National Curriculum and Text Book Board to incorporate the SRHR lessons in school curriculum. As a result of BNPS advocacy, SRHR issues have been included in national school curriculum since 2013.
At present, BNPS is implementing SRHR programmes through three SRHR dedicated projects: `Unite for Body Rights’, `Ritu (Promoting Menstrual Hygiene in Bangladesh)’ and `Collective Initiatives to Improve Menstrual Health (MH) Situation in Bangladesh’. Another project: `Our Lives Our Health Our Futures’ is going to start from February 2009 with the support from Simavi/EU. Besides, two of BNPS core projects ‘Promoting Rights through Mobilization and Empowerment (PRiME) and ‘Advancing Equality of Women And Marginalized People (AWAM)’ also has SRHR components in its community awareness and youth empowerment activities.
The objective of BNPS SRHR programmes is:
-To increase knowledge and improved attitudes and practice on sexual reproductive health and rights of girls, boys, men and women.
-To increase favourable policy environment to improve the accessibility to sexual and reproductive health services for girls, boys, women and men.
