Improvement of toilet and sanitation system of secondary and higher secondary schools, madrasahs and technical educational institutions
In June 2015, a circular was issued by the Ministry of Education of Bangladesh to ensure the hygiene of toilets and sanitation in all educational institutions. The circular acknowledges the importance of clean toilets to ensure a hygienic environment in educational institutions. Quoting from a National Baseline Survey published in 2014, it states that the availability of toilets is very few as compared to the number of students in educational institutions. It mentions that the standard of toilets is very poor with poor infrastructure and unavailability of lights, locks, water and soap. It states the relationship between proper toilets and attendance of girls in schools, as most girls end up dropping out of schools after menarche.
The circular lists eleven measures that secondary and higher secondary schools, madrasahs and technical educational institutions must undertake to ensure the improvement of toilets and sanitation system.
