Ending HIV Transmission through Behavioral Change Activities
The risk of HIV transmission, in the community of Bangladesh, is high due to low use of condom and sex with multiple partners. Another major risk factor in HIV transmission is non-marital sex with high risk partners (sex workers). This behavior creates rick for not only a large number of young men but also their partners. In order to remove this risk factor from our society, we need effective behavioral change activities. Decreased sexual partner change and increased use of condom are the major two methods of behavioral change.
This study was conducted in six districts of Bangladesh with more than 7000 males aged 18 to 49 years. Here, the combination of high levels of commercial sex and multiple sexual partners, combined with very limited condom protection, results in a potentially explosive situation.
