Bangladesh wins UNFPA joint innovation challenge
The UN agency for sexual and reproductive health, UNFPA, named the ten winners of its first-ever joint innovation challenge, which sought to finance social entrepreneurs with creative ideas for advancing women’s and girls’ empowerment globally. According to a news statement from UNFPA on August 4, the Bangladeshi team ToguMogu was one of the challenge’s winners.
ToguMogu is a one-stop resource for family health and welfare that gives young women and expectant moms access to family planning, reproductive health information, and services. The winning solutions included anything from a portable pre-eclampsia diagnostic device to a board game that spreads knowledge about sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Ten women-led organizations from across the world have received this award as part of the 2022 challenge. It is funded by UNFPA’s Equalizer Accelerator Fund and carried out in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the International Trade Centre (ITC). 300 submissions came from 61 different nations for the contest. 10 entries have been chosen as winners after the 20 contenders who had been selected presented themselves to the expert panel. The winners signed nine-month contracts with UNFPA and earned an equity-free investment of $60,000.
