Job Responsibilities
- Plan and design the implementation of hygiene promotion measures with two objectives: a) to address priority public health risks of the population living in the camps, and b) to complement physical sanitation interventions (including latrine building and reinforcing, latrine emptying and faecal sludge treatment).
- Mobilise and engage the communities, to participate fully in this programme. Train community facilitators, volunteers, and National Society (NS) staff in hygiene promotion as appropriate, include preparedness and prevention of AWD in the response.
- Develop occupational safety and hygiene measures and procedures for Operation, Maintenance and Monitoring of Faecal Sludge Treatment unit. This includes developing specific hygiene Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for manual and mechanical desludging, transport of faecal sludge and disposal to tanks on site, as well as Emergency SOPs for events such as the outbreak of AWD/Cholera, flooding, landslides, or cyclonic events. These should draw on PHAST, national guidelines or other standard methodologies, working within national guidelines, where appropriate.
Educational Requirements
- Degree in Public Health / Health Promotion or equivalent
