Minimum Qualifications:
- Relevant Master’s degree required plus 5 to 10 years of prior work experience in international development or related field, including at least five years of work experience in gender integration and female empowerment.
- Experience working in gender and economic empowerment programs required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and proven successful ability to conduct gender analyses and gender integration programming required.
- Prior management work experience required.
- Experience working with agricultural market systems, value chains, rural producers and farmers’ associations and applied knowledge of nutrition-sensitive production approaches.
- Proven ability to successfully design and conduct training and workshops and lead interviews and focus groups.
- Male engagement experience highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Bangladeshi gender constraints required.
- Fluency in English and ability to write technical reports in English required.

Gender and Economic Empowerment Lead, Bangladesh
USAID/Bangladesh plans to support a five year Feed the Future multi-sectoral nutrition program that will sustainably improve household nutrition through dietary diversity resulting in reduced childhood stunting. It is expected to be a $10 – 24.5 million USD, five-year program that will improve nutritional status for pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, and children, especially under age five. This will be achieved through increased consumption of nutritious, diverse and safe diets by rural households, increased social and economic empowerment of women and girls, and improved access to and adoption of improved water, sanitation and hygiene practices. The activity will layer market systems based approaches both on the input and output sides to support the overall success and sustainability of the program.
Position Summary:
ACDI/VOCA is seeking a highly qualified Gender and Economic Empowerment Lead for this anticipated USAID Feed the Future funded activity in Bangladesh. The Gender and Economic Empowerment (GEE) Lead will serve as a key member of the program technical leadership team and is specifically responsible for developing and delivering targeted activities that will empower women and girls at the household and community levels. The GEE Lead will also be responsible for overseeing gender integration efforts across the project, which includes leading the development of the gender strategy and ensuring that gender is integrated across work plan activities in accordance with the established program design and the intended outcomes of the project. The GEE Lead will lead the process of identifying and addressing gender-specific constraints that limit social and economic empowerment, such as mobility, social stigma, early marriage, adolescent pregnancy, household decision-making, and access to markets. The GEE Lead will develop and implement gender transformative approaches that expand both on- and off-farm economic opportunities for women and adolescent girls.
Responsibilities:
The Gender and Economic Empowerment Lead will be responsible for the following tasks as well as other duties that may be assigned.

- Work closely with the program team to ensure gender equity and female economic empowerment approaches are integrated across programs, sectors and core competencies, including program activities, monitoring, evaluation, organizational structure and operations.
- Oversee the analysis of available desk research and support field assessments, as appropriate, to identify gender-specific challenges and opportunities for female social and economic empowerment, particularly household decision-making, nutrition, WASH, and women’s engagement in on- and off-farm economic opportunities.
- Lead the development of strategies and interventions that promote the economic and social empowerment of women and girls.
- Develop targeted activities to enable the increased participation of women in income generating activities and demonstrate the benefit to households of women’s participation in the market.
- Lead the development and implementation of activities that address household decision-making and promote reductions in early marriage and adolescent pregnancy.
- Collaborate with Nutrition and WASH Team Leads and other relevant staff in the design and implementation of activities that increase household dietary diversity through female empowerment, male engagement, and other gender-transformative approaches.
- Work with the M&E Lead to ensure that gender impacts and resource utilization are tracked, monitored, analyzed, and reported.
- Contribute to creation of work plans and periodic written program reports, summarizing female economic and social empowerment results and evidence as well as progress and evidence of gender equitable and transformative approaches.
- Identify and address capacity building and resource needs for project staff and partners, including training, mentoring, and other support.
