Women empowerment through dutyfree access to US trade market
Bangladesh would be able to progress further in women empowerment if it can expand its trade in the US market added with the Duty Free Quota Free (DFQF) benefit.
This was stated when Bangladesh Ambassador Mohammad Ziauddin met Republican Congressman from Florida Ted Yoho, also chairman of the US Congressional Sub-Committee in Asia and the Pacific.
Ziauddin referred to the four million women garment workers of Bangladesh who are contributing to society by alleviating poverty and reducing child labor. He also said the country has made remarkable progress in women empowerment.
Other than Bangladesh, thirteen other least developed countries (LDCs) are left out of the DFQF scheme.
Ted Yoho said his priority would be trade, economic growth and empowerment of the people in the Asia Pacific region, and therefore, he would like to work with small countries like Bangladesh.
