Gender, Tech and Transformative Change: Join the International Conference On Gender And Technology 2025

In an era where technology is reshaping societies, it has become crucial to address its impact on gender equality and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). From January 16-19, 2025, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, in collaboration with UNESCO, will host the “International Conference on Gender and Technology” at the Amritapuri campus in Kerala, India. This event, co-sponsored by the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT) and IEEE Kerala Section, stands out as an influential platform to discuss SRHR, gender equality, and how technological advancements can be harnessed for transformative change.

Under the theme Beyond Boundaries: Gender, Tech, and Transformative Change, the conference will gather researchers, activists, and policymakers to discuss pressing issues around gender and technology, with a strong focus on SRHR. The slogan highlights the necessity of crossing traditional boundaries to address issues such as reproductive health, gender-based discrimination, and access to sexual health information and services. This dialogue is crucial in the face of widening gender and health disparities influenced by the digital divide and technology-driven challenges.

Despite advancements in digital health, many populations—particularly women,  individuals from marginalised communities, and youth—continue to face barriers in accessing reliable sexual and reproductive health resources. These challenges are compounded by a lack of gender-sensitive technology and policies, which further excludes marginalised groups from equitable access to information and services that are vital to their rights and well-being. Through interdisciplinary presentations and discussions, the conference aims to address these gaps by highlighting the intersection of gender, technology, and SRHR.

Accepted and presented papers at the conference will also be submitted to IEEE Xplore and indexed by Scopus, enhancing their accessibility to the global research community and enabling broader knowledge sharing. This focus on accessibility is a reminder of the growing role technology can play in improving SRHR services and awareness worldwide—if deployed thoughtfully and inclusively.

The deadline for registration is December 15, 2024. By participating, stakeholders in SRHR and technology can contribute to a meaningful exchange of ideas aimed at dismantling barriers to reproductive rights, empowering individuals with resources for safe sexual health, and encouraging gender equality in digital spaces. The conference is an opportunity to catalyse action and inspire solutions for a future where technology and gender inclusivity can coalesce to drive positive social change.

For those invested in gender and SRHR, this conference represents a unique opportunity to contribute to a global movement that envisions technology as a tool for empowerment, equity, and transformative social impact.
