Stopping child marriage in Dhaka slums
Dhaka Tribune, a leading English newspaper in Bangladesh, covered an inspiring story of young girls in Korail slum in Dhaka taking upon themselves to stop child marriage practices within their communities. The young girls are involved with various non-government organisation led programs on women’s empowerment, violence against women, and health interventions, which have given them a greater awareness of their rights and responsibilities.
Selina and her team of girls were able to stop a young girl from getting married. When family did not listen to the requests, Selina and the team notified the police who calmly explained to the family the legal problems to child marriage.
